Dates: November 8-23, 2024
Location: Kp̓iƛ̓l̓s (Brilliant Flats, Castlegar, BC)
Sinixt Confederacy Members involved: Elder Rick Desautel
The Sinixt Confederacy was happy to support the Inchelium Language and Culture Association with the Sinixt Medicine Camp set up at Kp̓iƛ̓l̓s. Kp̓iƛ̓l̓s, located at the confluence of the Kootenay River with the Columbia River at Castlegar, BC, is an important site for Sinixt people, history, and culture. The camp was visited by the public, including school classes from Nelson and the Brilliant Cultural Center daycare kids.
The camp closed on November 23 with a ceremony to pray for the land and the people. Approximately 100 people attended, including representatives from regional districts, municipal and provincial governments, industry, Selkirk College, the Doukhobor community, and the public. The ceremony was followed by a communal breakdown of the camp and site cleanup.
